The College of Management at Shenzhen University was established in June 1997, consisting of five departments: Business Administration, Management Science, Public Administration, Human Resource Management and Marketing.
Presently, the college has 105 faculty members and 30 administrative staff. There are 209 postgraduate students including PhD candidates, 2,650 full-time undergraduates, 40 international cooperation students and over 4,000 part-time students studying in campus.
In recent years, the College of Management develops fast in academic achievements. On average, we have 8 grants supported by NSFC (Natural Science Foundation of China) and 2 grants supported by SSFC (Social Science Foundation of China) each year. Our faculty members have published academic papers on top-tier journals and academic books in both China and Overseas.
College of Management focuses on cultivating business elites with innovation and entrepreneurship spirits. Consequently, we built an Experimental Center for Modern Management Teaching to train and improve the students’ practical ability. The Experimental Center consists of Integrated Information Management Laboratory, Ecommerce innovation and entrepreneurship Laboratory, ERP Laboratory and Merchandising Laboratory. Normally, it can offer 45 experimental courses and 230 experimental programs. Every year, it organizes and assists students to attend sorts of activities related to experiment-based teaching and simulation competitions of business decision-making. So far, the student team of College of Management has achieved 5 global prizes and 50 national prizes involving the competitions such as the Peak Time International and the National ERP Sand Table.
To support the innovation and entrepreneurship education, College of Management provides 19 general courses and 5 advanced courses on entrepreneurship to the students of Shenzhen University. We established Entrepreneurship Elite Program in 2011 and Public Service Innovation Program in 2015. Twenty eight percent of the students in the Entrepreneurship Elite Program have founded their own companies in China.
We also try to expand the students’ global vision by international study programs and joint programs. For example, to obtain their degrees, our MBA students must pass at least twice international studies. Till now, College of Management has 3 joint programs collaborated with foreign universities and more than ten exchange student programs.
We are young but we develop very fast. We are making changes by improvement and responsibility.
Shenzhen University (SZU) was founded as a public university on May 10th, 1983 with the accreditation of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, and has undergone rapid growth and expansion in the past three decades just like the city of Shenzhen, China’s most successful Special Economic Zone.
SZU offers multi-level degrees with its 28 colleges, providing 84 undergraduate programs, over 100 master programs, and 9 doctoral programs. The study area at SZU ranges from philosophy, literature, economics, management, law, education, sciences and engineering, medicine, liberal art, and history. Today, SZU has become a widely recognized multi-discipline university both home and abroad and strives to be a leading innovative university with an international profile. In 2015, SZU is ranked top 30 according to the information from National Science Foundation of China (NSFC) grants in China.
SZU comprises two campuses, Houhai campus and Xili campus, occupying 2.72 square kilometers of land area in total. The Houhai campus is located near the picturesque coastline of Houhai Bay with 1.34 square kilometers land area, spreading across rolling hills covered with lichee trees and flowers, two lakes, a forest, an abundance of green space and works of art, which is ranked top 5 most beautiful university campus in China. The new Xili campus now under construction is located in the city’s University Town and takes up nearly 1.38 square kilometers and is scheduled to open in the end of 2016.
Currently, SZU has about 34,656 fulltime students including 27,383 undergraduates, over 7,000 postgraduates (185 doctoral), plus 865 international students. The admission score of undergraduates meets the first level of National College Entrance Exam (Chinese Gaokao), and ranked top 4 in Guangdong province, which shows the high quality of our undergraduates. SZU has outstanding alumnus who contribute a lot to Chinese society and economic development such as MA Huateng, the founder and CEO of Tencent Inc. which is the fourth largest Internet company in the whole world, and SHI Yuzhu, the founder and CEO of Giant Interactive Group. In 2014, SZU was ranked 7th by alumni donations in China.
SZU maintains a highcaliber teaching staff with high qualifications and diverse academic background. The total staff number is 3380 or so, which includes 1,937 teaching staff. Among the teaching staff, 78 percent are professors or associate professors and over 60 percent are PhD holders.
SZU implements the concepts of “equal opportunities, aptitude teaching, solid founded knowledge, and serving to the society” in teaching, and optimizes teaching and quality control in order to cultivate innovation and entrepreneurship among students.
SZU strongly advocates international exchange and cooperation. As one of the 54 MOE accredited Chinese universities for international education and the HSK testing institution, SZU began to enroll international students in 1987. Up till now, the university has established cooperative relationships with over 100 overseas universities. With the increasing popularity, SZU attracts over 1,000 international students every year pursuing their study here.
Shenzhen, located in the Pearl River Delta and situated immediately north of Hong Kong, is one of the first-tier cities in China. The city has a warm, sunshine and humid subtropical climate, covers an area of 1,991.64 square kilometers including urban and rural areas, with a population of over 18 million in 2014.
Shenzhen is a major financial center in southern China. The city is home to the Shenzhen Stock Exchange as well as the headquarters of the most successful high-tech companies in China, including Huawei, Tencent, DJI, BYD, ZTE, Skyworth and so on. Many foreign high-tech companies have their China operations centers located in the Science and Technology Park of the Nanshan District near Shenzhen University. Shenzhen is also an extremely fertile ground for startups, be it by local or foreign entrepreneurs. Nowadays, Shenzhen was dubbed as China's Silicon Valley due to its high concentration of technology innovation and entrepreneurship.
As Shenzhen embraces the world, concomitantly it is becoming internationalized. Shenzhen has 17 sea, land and air ports, including China's largest land passenger port and land cargo port. Due to the “reform and opening” policy, Shenzhen creates many miracles. It is ranked 3rd by the ability to develop Headquarters’ Economy among China’s 35 major cities, and 2nd after Hong Kong in the “Top Ten Cities with Comprehensive Competitiveness Index”. Shenzhen also emphasizes on environment protection and urban greening construction. It is the first “international garden city” in China and one of the Best 500 cities rated by the United Nations Environment Program. As for the GDP of 2014, Shenzhen ranked 4th among cities of China mainland after Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou. Besides, the GDP increase rate of Shenzhen, 8.8%, outperforms Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Hong Kong.
